Tata Motors and Stellantis have formalised their partnership to develop a new Jeep SUV based on the Tata Sierra's ARGOS platform. Codename J1J, the SUV is expected to arrive in H1 2028 with petrol and electric powertrains, alongside plans for left hand drive export versions.

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicle (TMPV) or Stellantis ki partnership ki baat karein so both companies ne product technology, platform or vehicle architecture mein apni collaboration ko expand karne ke liye ek formal agreement sign kiya hai. Is agreement ke saath hi Tata Sierra ke ARGOS platform par based ek new Jeep SUV ko lekar plans bhi formalise ho gaye hai. Internally is SUV ko J1J codename diya gaya hai, or reports ke according, is new Jeep SUV ke ICE (internal combustion engine) or electric versions both dekhe jaa sakte hai. Powertrain ki baat karein so is SUV mein Tata Sierra wale hi engine or electric powertrain options diye jaa sakte hai, aisa industry sources ka kehna hai. Platform and production plans for the Sierra-based Jeep SUV ARGOS ka full form hai All-Terrain Ready, Omni-Energy and Geometry Scalable. Yeh TMPV ka modular, multi-energy vehicle architecture hai, jise different vehicle dimensions or powertrain applications ko accommodate karne ke liye design kiya gaya hai. Is architecture ki help se future mein different types ke vehicles develop karne ke opportunities bhi open ho sakte hai, jo Stellantis ke liye kaafi beneficial prove ho sakta hai. Tata Motors apni Sierra ko Gujarat ke Sanand factory mein manufacture kar rahi hai, so wahin Jeep model ka production Maharashtra ke Ranjangaon mein Fiat India Automobiles Ltd (FIAL) ke joint venture facility mein kiya jaa sakta hai. Industry se related informed ek person ke according, next 18 months mein is programme ke liye manufacturing operations ko adapt kiye jaana expected hai.

Stellantis ke wider plans ki baat karein so company ka aim hai ki 2028 mein Tata or Dongfeng ke saath partnership programmes ke through globally 1,00,000 locally produced vehicles sell kiye jaayein. Is traget ko May 2026 ke Investor Day par outline kiya gaya tha. Yeh target multiple products ko cover karta hai, or sources ke according company first vehicle ko 2028 ke first half mein launch kar sakti hai. Project ke liye ek dedicated team currently Pune mein based hai, jo vehicle architecture ko adapt karne par work karegi, including overseas markets ke liye left-hand-drive version bhi develop kiya jaa sakta hai. Is platform par range-extender electric vehhicle (REEV) application bhi explore ki jaa rahi hai, although REEV ke production ko lekar abhi tak koi final decision nahi liya gaya hai, as per people familiar with the engineering work. As per Autocar India Tata Motors or Stellantis ko comment ke liye email send kiya gaya tha, but at the moment both companies ki taraf se koi response nahi mila tha. Formal agreement ki baat karein so yeh partnership 2 decades se bhi zyada old hai, jahan both partners manufacturing, powertrains or supply chain ke areas mein pehle se hi collaborate karte aa rahe hai. Abb inka collaboration vehicle development tak bhi extend kiya jaa raha hai, which means ki both companies abb sirf manufacturing or components tak limited nahi rahengi, rather vehicle ko develop karne mein bhi ek saath work karti hui dekhi jaa sakti hai. Sierra-based Jeep SUV: Unique body and cabin Stellantis ki baat karein so company J1J model ko develop karne ke liye apne hi Jeep Renegade or Compass products ko benchmark kar rahi hai, as per company sources. J1J model ka eventual name or final production design abhi finalize kiya jaa raha hai, so in future is model ki naming or design details disclose ho sakti hai. Iska clearly indication hai ki Jeep ka upper body, means top hat, exterior styling or cabin Sierra se different hone wale hai. Seating package, interior features or equipment mein bhi changes dekhe jaa sakte hai. Yeh all changes Jeep ko Sierra se different identity dene ka work karenge, while underlying architecture or components both companies ke between shared rakhe jaasakte hai. Platform ki baat karein so iska major portion retain kiya jaa sakta hai, although Jeep ki body ko accommodate karne ke liye or crash safety as well as overseas regulatory requirements ko meet karne ke liye jahan need hogi wahan structural modifications or reinforcements bhi dekhe jaa sakte hai. Jeep-specific suspension tuning or off-road hardware mein kya changes diye jaayenge, iska details at present reveal nahi ki gayi. Other than this 4x4 variant bhi dekha jaa sakta hai, because Jeep ki brand guidelines ke according company apne all models mein customers ko 4x4 option dene par push karti hai. Sierra ke electric version mein already 4x4 setup diya gaya hai, but ARGOS platform ko is tarah develop or package kiya gaya hai ki yeh 4x4 ICE drivetrain ko bhi accommodate kar sakta hai. In fact, Jeep ke saath yeh partnership next-gen Jeep SUV ke launch ke saath Sierra ke 4x4 version ko bhi introduce karne mein help kar sakti hai. According to people familiar with the programme, so yahan par understand karna important hai that TMPV will continue to retain ownership of the architecture and license it to Stellantis. Existing Sierra suppliers bhi Jeep ke liye support provide karne ki expected hai wherever components can be shared, while model-specific parts ke liye separate sourcing and tooling dekhi jaa sakti hai. Developed in India and the global market Stellantis ne May 21,2026 ko apne Investor Day ke during disclose kiya tha that the company is planning to develop a Tata-based Jeep. Gregoire Olivier, who is the Asia Pacific Chief operating officer at Stellantis, unhone kaha tha ki Tata Motors ek competitive platform provide karegi for a new Jeep vehicle, jise India mein develop or assemble kiya jayega. Is vehicle ko exisiting joint venture ke through develop kiya jayega and India se hi global markets ke liye export bhi kiya jaa sakta hai. Olivier ne bhi outline kiya tha ki wider portfolio ke through 50 se zyada countries mein export kiye jaa sakte hai, jismein Dongfeng programmes, Tata-based Jeep or India mein existing Citroen Smart Car programme bhi include hai. However, specifically J1J ke liye kaunse markets allocate kiye hai, abhi tak yeh establish nahi kiya gaya hai. Stellantis ke liye baat karein so Tata ki existing architecture or supplier base ek way provide karte hai jisse development expenditure ko reduce kiya jaa sakta hai while adding a new Jeep product to its portfolio. Same TMVP ke liye, iss arrangement se licensing revenue generate kiya jaa sakta hai and platform costs ko additional vehicles ke across spread karne ki opportunity bhi mil sakti hai. Common components use karne se suppliers ko bhi higher volumes mil sakte hai, jisse overall production scale ko improve karne mein help mil sakti hai. Jeep ke liye dekha jaaye so yeh alliance company ke liye ek much-needed opportunity lekar aata hai, jo India mein close to a decade se present hai but limited product action ki wajah se Indian market mein more strong position nahi hold nahi kar paayi. Licensed modular architecture dekha jaa sakta hai which has the potential to support multiple powertrains, 4x4 capability and different wheelbases. Isse Jeep ko less time interval mein more products introduce karne ke opportunity mil sakti hai, while expanding its portfolio to cater to different segments of the Indian market. Ranjangaon venture ki baat karein so, ab tak manufacturing cooperation se extent karte hue, Tata ke vehicle architecture par ek Jeep bhi produce ki jaa sakti hai. Is programme ke under left-hand-drive version bhi dekha jaa sakta hai, which would help the plant expand its overseas reach. Isse India or other right-hand-drive markets ke bahar bhi other markets ke demand ko cater kiya jaa sakega, giving the Ranjangaon plat access to a much wider international market.
